Dual Realities

Why 3 Lines?

While on my way to a trip to Rome I picked up a book translated into English from French. It is called Novels in Three Lines and is based on a newspaper column by French reporter/editor Felix Feneon. Mr. Feneon was a product of his time and became a French extremist and part of the anarchist movement. His politics is not what interested me as I do not lay claim to anarchy in any sense, but I also lay no judgment on him as it was a different reality. I have no idea of how life was in the early 1900's in France. It is important to note that over his life Mr. Feneon worked for both conservative and liberal papers. What does fascinate me is his ability to write and move people.

While he had other writings, this book focused on three lines snippets he would write for the broadsheet Le Matin starting in 1906. He is able to capture the essence of events in both direct and emotional ways. Some entries make you laugh, some make you sad, some angry. In all cases you get the full point in just three lines.

While I doubt I can be as eloquent and succinct, I will do my best to learn the art and express to readers of the blog my daily observations in this way. I hope you enjoy.
